Sock Hop Sailor Saturn Skirt

I’m so excited because I was invited (after volunteering myself) to join a group of Sailor Scouts with a twist. My friends Andi and Adrienne are putting together a group of Sailor Scouts themed after a 1950s sock hop. Yes, you heard that right, poodle skirt senshi uniforms.

Now, you will find out that I am actually going to cosplay Sailor Venus in this group (more on that later), but I am getting to do my first commission for this group for a friend who will be cosplaying Sailor Saturn. My first group cosplay, my first commission, AND my first original designs coming to life!! Without further ado, here is an overview of the skirt for Sailor Saturn.

Here is a photo of my original design with my fabric choices.

I used McCall’s pattern 7253, but with my own designs on the skirt instead of theirs. If you’re interested in how I applied the applique, you can check out my blog post for iron-ons.

Sewing all the details took about two hours after I ironed on the main fabric to the skirt. I’m pretty happy about how it turned out.

Detail-Saturn

After the original detail was finished I just followed the pattern. I shortened this skirt about 8 inches from what the pattern was asking.

I cannot wait to see this whole look together for a photoshoot.

What cosplays are you working on? Any questions about how I made this? Have you done any commissions? Tell me more. I can’t wait to show you my Venus design!
