Why I chose to make this costume:
My friend Steph organized a large group meetup for Hannah Alexander Artwork based cosplays. I struggled to pick one design because they’re all so gorgeous, but ultimately decided to pick a “simpler” design that ended up being my largest project for myself in 2025.
Thoughts on this costume:
I absolutely loved this build, although technically, I still have some beadwork and hand sewing to finish it properly. My favorite part of this project was recreating the original ruby red slippers, and creating all the nostalgic details that Hannah built into the design as a nod to the original film symbolism. The centerpiece of this outfit was the hand beaded heart of the tin man, and it was my first major beadwork project. Huge shout out to my friend Sara Beth for all the guidance on beading this as I couldn’t have done it without your help! I was also very excited to use St. Christopher’s Gardens flowers in my headpiece as he also did the flowers for our wedding. I’ve dreamed for years of incorporating his art into one of my cosplays! The medal of courage was also 3D modeled by me, and printed by my friend Lucas. This was my first time 3D modeling something myself for a costume.
I documented most of my work for this on Tiktok including several fun reveal videos if you’re willing to scroll back to 2025 and watch them!
