Star Wars United Way Campaign

I don’t often make posts about the side of my slogan that is “Engineer by day,” but I felt like today was a good day to talk about something that makes me really proud of the company I work at. Each year we do a thing called the United Way Campaign. This is the first year that I’ve finally gotten on board with donating to the cause.

First, I don’t want you to think that I’m some modern day Scrooge who doesn’t like giving time or money to the community. I actually do a lot of charity and volunteer work. This is just the first year I’ve gotten involved in this specific one.

Anyways… I just kind of decided that the United Way is awesome because it takes the money that we give them, and they turn it back into benefit for the community that we live in. I’ve grown rather fond of the area I live, and if I can do a small part in making life better for others in that community then I’m all in.

You’ve probably seen some of the fun Star Wars photos I’ve previously posted. These were from our May the 4th be with you Star Wars Day that we had to raise awareness for the campaign. In case you were wondering why that’s relevent, well, the theme for this year’s campaign was “Make a Difference, You Can!”

Today, we presented our check to the United Way as the campaign comes to an end. As a special perk to the people who came to the check presentation they did a giveaway drawing for the life size cardboard Star Wars characters. I was pretty excited not only because of the amount of money that our company banded together to raise, but I was lucky enough to win this BB-8 to take him home with me!

Do you give back to your community? What are some events or campaigns that you take part in every year? What is your favorite way to give back? To all of the people who have given their time or money to a worthy cause, I give you a huge round of applause and thanks. May the force be with you!

This sounds great. You’re company is awesome for helping out the community like this. Mine does quite a lot of fundraising for charities, but I think it’s different when you’re raising money to make the area you live in a little better – i’d definitely be up for that if that did it where I live. Also, you look so happy with your BB-8 cutout, it’s adorable. What are you going to do with him?

Even if your company doesn’t do stuff with you United Way you should see if they have one in the area. They support tons of organizations, and are always looking for volunteers. As for BB-8, I’m thinking he is going to be my cosplay room companion. You might see him make an appearance in some YouTube videos in the future as well.
