Feature Friday: Funscuttle Cosplay
Today’s feature I met because she was in a cosplay contest I helped judge, and she won! Her skills are mad, and I’m so excited to share her talent with you today. From what I know of her she is also just a beautiful person, so keep reading to learn more about my friend Funscuttle Cosplay.

What is your cosplay name? Funscuttle Cosplay
How did you come about your cosplay name? I really have no idea. I thought of it five years ago. I guess i would have to say it comes from my favorite Disney character, Scuttle. I love the Little Mermaid.
What is your real world name? Liz Aydlette
What do you do when you aren’t cosplaying? School and work. I’m a full time student and I work as the promotional director of my school radio station, so i keep busy.
How old are you? 19
How long have you been cosplaying? I’ve been cosplaying since I was in middle school but only recently have been making costumes myself.
What made you want to start cosplaying? I’ve always loved dressing up and when I was told that dressing up as your favorite characters was a thing outside of Halloween, I had to be involved.
Why do you continue to cosplay? Nothing makes me happier. Even when I’m stressed to the max and crying over a costume, I’m still happy about it. I love creating new things and being around people that love these characters as much as I do. I’ve met so many amazing people that have made an impact on my life and I know i’ll just continue to meet new ones.
What is your dream cosplay? Okay, difficult question to answer because I keep making my dream cosplays. I guess anything with full body armor would be a dream. My current dream is my Grey Warden from Dragon Age Origins and Kayle from League of Legends.
You do a lot of crossplay and very well! What makes you choose to do so much of this specific type of cosplay, and what advice do you have for people who maybe want to get into this type of genre? I don’t pick guys on purpose, I swear. I have tried to make it a point to cosplay more girls, but guys always end up happening. I guess it’s because most of my favorite characters are men. I generally will not cosplay someone unless i’m very attached to them. Why should I spend time, effort, and money on making something I don’t care about with my whole heart? It’s never really the character design that draws me in, but the character themselves. Take Anders from Dragon Age for example, his design is quite frankly horrific. He takes hobo chic to a new level. It’s his personality that made me want to spend an entire summer figuring out how to make his costume. Same goes for Winter Soldier and Captain Kirk. I love the characters so I did it. As for advice for others, if you want to cosplay someone that isn’t your gender, go for it. If you think you don’t have the features for it, still go for it. There are plenty of tutorials for makeup out there and if you’re confident in yourself, it doesn’t really matter what you look like. It fun to be something you’re not. I have a baby face and I wear dresses and heels and makeup as often as I can. Dressing up as the Winter Soldier and getting to be scruffy and dirty for a little while is a lot of fun!
What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far? Why? Winter Soldier is my favorite. We share a birthday and I’ve been in love with Bucky Barnes since 6th grade. He’s honestly one of my favorite characters in the entire Marvel universe and getting to bring him to life is a dream come true.
You and your cosplay friends take a lot of time to do each others photos. How did you decide to do this and how do you continue to make it work? My good friend, Cassidy, has been taking my pictures for years. I just asked her to one day and it became a thing. She takes most of my pictures whenever i’m on break from school.I pay her in my eternal love and grilled cheese. As for other friends, most of my cosplay friends are photographers too; Erik (Onifoxmaster), Cierra (Sweetpea Cosplay), Alatove, etc. If we’re together, we’ll do shoots together. Sometimes we’ll plan days where we just cosplay and do shoots for each other.
What has been your favorite cosplay photoshoot/photo you have done? Why? My favorite photoshoot would have to be a tie between my Star Trek shoot on the Yorktown or my Anders shoot at the beach. The Star Trek shoot was hilarious. I’m a very smiley person and I kept laughing during serious pictures or i would try and make Erik laugh. It was also really hot the day we went to the ship and between shots, we would just stand in front of fans and try not to die. The Anders shoot at the beach was a blast. It was just a day before the Star Trek shoot but it was freezing cold and windy. Thanks to the wind, I didn’t die in seven layers of clothes. It was a lot of fun to run around on the beach with a giant stick and the pictures turned out better than I could have ever dreamed.
Who is your favorite cosplayer? Idapod or Alyson Tabbitha. Both of these ladies are absolute goddesses.
What’s the hardest thing about cosplay for you? It can get hard to remember that not everything is a competition and that it’s not good to compare yourself to others. Everyone is at a different skill level.
What is the best advice you have for other cosplayers? Love what you do or don’t do it. Cosplay should make you happy above all else.
