Website Refresher

I wanted to share with you something that I am super excited about! Last year, I updated the hosting and overall look of my website to better suit my blogging needs. Well, maybe you’ve noticed some upgrades around here recently.

Updated Theme

Something that I have been extremely frustrated with all 2016 was the capabilities to create a decent portfolio, but also maintain my desired blog layout. Most of the free themes for WordPress either leave you with a great blog or a great portfolio. There may be some out there for free that do both, but they are far and in between. After quite a bit of research I finally landed on the premium theme, Kalium, for my new layout. It is a top rated theme with capabilities to create the type of portfolio and blog that I want for this website. At the end of the day if I’m not willing to put a little bit of money and elbow grease into providing my followers with the best experience then why should they keep coming back?

Brand New Portfolio

Ultimately, the thing I gained with Kalium was the ability to create an organized portfolio that also allowed me to create pages with more info on each item. Not only is the layout aesthetically pleasing, but you can also use the tabs at the top of the portfolio to narrow the portfolio to which categories you would like to see. Right now this is limited to cosplay and modeling, but it may grow as time goes on and I add more to this page.

Each page is designed to give you a full overview of that concept or character. Below is an example of each page type, modeling or cosplay, to give you an idea of what elements to expect on each page.

Modeling

• Photoshoot name
• Photographer credit
• General overview of the shoot concept
• Photo gallery

Cosplay

• Character name
• Subtitle, if necessary
• Photographer credit (Cersei was shot by myself and a friend in Croatia, and she has no page to credit)
• Why I chose to make the costume
• Thoughts from me on that costume
• Blog posts related to that costume
• Any links to special reference images
• Photo gallery

I really hope that you as my audience are as excited about this update as I am. Be prepared because it’s only going to keep getting better around here.
