Feature Friday: Misty Cosplay

Let me share someone awesome with you today. Misty is a cosplaying friend that I have been fortunate enough to make over the past two years. She and her boyfriend, Gregbo, have been so welcoming and caring towards me. It is always nice to have friends that you know will be at all of the local conventions. I am also lucky enough to be able to attend local events with her as well supporting the two of them. Keep reading to find out more about her!

How long have you been cosplaying? About 5 years.

What made you want to start cosplaying? Gregbo took me to Dragoncon 5 years ago and I fell in love with dressing up. When he started doing conventions it gave me the perfect opportunity to start making costumes of my own.

Why do you continue to cosplay? I love it. I love using it as outlet for my creative side.  It also makes me feel really good and gives my self confidence a boost.

What is your dream cosplay? Not sure. I have always wanted to do Corpse Bride and I have been working on it and hope to debut it sometime soon.

How do you choose who you will cosplay? If I see a character and I start creating the costume in my head then I have to try it.

What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far? Why? La Muerte from Book of Life.  I put a lot of time into that costume and I am very proud of how it came out.Misty_SugarSkull

What is your favorite material to work with for cosplay? Why? Craft and EVA foam! It’s so easy to work with and the uses are endless!

You are in a relationship with a well established comic book artist. Tell us how, if at all, this affects your cosplay game.   It gives me the opportunity to attend lots of conventions throughout the year where I get to meet other cosplayers and share ideas.  I also have the opportunity to cosplay his original characters with a unique insight into the creator’s mind.

Do you think that you have a different view on the cosplay world due to you relationship? I think so. I get the unique view from not only the cosplayer but also from the artist and vendor point of view.

What’s the hardest thing about cosplay for you? Not waiting til the last minute to work on cosplays then getting stressed before a con.

What is the best advice you have for other cosplayers? Don’t let anything hold you back. Learn new skills, try new things! You can be anyone you want!

Top 5 resources/tutorials you have found for cosplay help? I don’t know if I have 5 but I watch lots of YouTube videos and I also get tips from my cosplay friends!

Misty is also great because she is so enthusiastic about her costumes. She loves learning new things, and she shares the techniques when she discovers something great. Make sure you go follow her on Instagram below. Don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin’ to never miss a post!
