Update: Vacation, Cosplay, and Life in General

I’ve taken a much needed break from blogging recently. Maybe you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to instead of blogging? The answer is a little bit of everything. I have so much stuff that I am looking forward to sharing with you over the next few weeks. Here is an update of what has been going on leading into what is coming up.

Adulting

Unfortunately, being an adult can take it’s toll on you. I’ve had a good round of it hit me pretty hard recently. Mostly, I’ve just been having car troubles. I hate car troubles. They are like the most frustrating thing to deal with in life. No wheels. No deals.

I’ve also been so busy with life that my house is returning to a state of chaos. After I’m done with this blog post I actually have to go focus on cleaning for a bit. I’ve gotten some things that have been causing me to be go-go-go lately a little bit more under control. Now that I have some control of the situation, I should be able to focus on cleaning a little bit every night. Slow and steady wins the race.

Commissions

I finally started accepting commissions at the beginning of June, and things are booming! It feels so good to see my hard work worn by others. Below are some photos of things I have already completed. I’ve got two more lined up for Halloween, and two more pending. It is becoming a realistic goal to pay for my hobby with my hobby, and nothing makes me happier.

First Commission

Supergirl Leotard for my friend Viriginia. The fabric she provided me for this project was the Yaya Han fabric line, and it was the best fabric I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Photo by O’Brien Howard Photography.

Special Commission

Fun story… My best friend was scheduled to be in a wedding towards the middle of July. The first bridesmaid shop forgot to place the order for her dress. The second dress that came two weeks to the wedding was the wrong color. What do you do with no time to spare? You make the dress for her, and save the day!

My time is limited, but if you are interested in a commission by yours truly feel free to reach out to me!

Vacation

The past week, I pretty much went AWOL on social media. It was fantastic. I posted one thing on Instagram, and a few things on snapchat. I love social media. I’m not one of those people who wishes it would go away, but it was so nice to shut off for a few days. Not only did I shut down on personal technology, but I didn’t look at a single work email all week!

Where in the world have I been? Recently, my little sister in my sorority moved to Ireland. She has been country hopping all summer, and invited me to go to Croatia with her. That may seem like a funny place to visit. I thought the same thing until she told me that Dubrovnik is where they filmed a lot of the scenes of Kings Landing for Game of Thrones! Yeah, it didn’t take much convincing after that.

I’m not going to spend too much time talking about vacation here because I plan on doing an entire blog series on my trip. Yes, I took that many photos.

Dragon Con Prep

I’m going to do my best to stay relevant for the next few weeks, but Dragon Con is coming up over Labor Day weekend, and I will be crazy busy getting things finished up for that before we leave. I am starting to learn my lesson though.

Last night I nixed a huge project that was completely unfeasible to finish in three weeks. It was really hard for me because I was really looking forward to the cosplay, but I’m choosing to save my sanity and some money on this one. I spent some time analyzing my situation, and have come up with a cosplan that is actually reasonable.

Once again, I won’t spend too much time on Dragon Con details because I plan on having some tutorials on props and progress updates for you as I move along.

What do you have going on in your life right now? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you have anything exciting happening or about to happen? Are you going to Dragon con? What cosplays are you working on right now? Leave a comment below, and don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin’ to never miss a post.

Thank you! I feel like that leotard turned out better than a lot of thins I have made. I’m finding that travel is hard to pull the trigger on because of money, but worth the expense. I hope you enjoy the series I do on my trip as well. Thank you for reading!

Car troubles are the worst! I’m so sorry~

Your travels look super exciting and I look forward to reading about them! 🙂 It’s been a while since I had a big, epic trip but hopefully next summer I can go somewhere fun.

Right now I’m going to start working on Rapunzel again, with no particular deadline. She’s been an on-and-off project for a few years but I’d really like to get her finished by the end of the year. Good luck with your DragonCon prep!

Rapunzel is one of my dream cosplays. I don’t see her happening in the near future. I will live vicariously through you until then.

I can’t believe you made that Supergirl leotard, it looks amazing – so professional. I’m glad to hear you had fun in Croatia. Can’t wait to see more of your photos.

Thanks!!! I really think I have the fabric to thank for the way it looks, but this was the first pattern that I made mostly on my own. I also did the symbol by myself!
And I cannot wait to share the trip with you guys.

I’m always so super jealous of folks that go to anyplace abroad! I’ve never gone past Canada! Looks like it was a good time, and I’m looking forward to future updates about your vacation! 🙂

Don’t think this will be my time to go to Dragon Con, but I have a lot of friends going (including someone who will be a volunteer). I’ll be living vicariously through posts online.

I’ve got some exciting stuff going on, though! I just rolled out with a new print, about to roll out another soon, but even better news on my own writing project!

It was so nice. This week has felt like overload after such a long break, but we can’t avoid life forever…I suppose. I miss you too! I need a weekend in Chicago sometime.
