Princess Neptune’s Jewelry

I’ve hinted that I’ll be doing a version of Sailor Neptune for Dragon Con this year It’s true! We will be attending Night at the Aquarium this year, so I really wanted to do something elegant that was inspired by the ocean theme. Recently we finished Sailor Moon Crystal Season 3. I’ve been loving Neptune. I always have because she played the violin. Watching season 3 rekindled my endearment for her character. This is how I landed on her princess dress for the evening.

I’m going to try to document the different things that I’m doing to prepare for the con as best I can. This is my first little post about how I’m piecing it all together. All of the scouts have beautiful necklaces and earrings that they wear with their princess dresses. I entertained the idea of buying the jewelry for her on Etsy. Unfortunately the only option that I really fell in love with was too much of a time crunch for the shop right before Dragon Con. Keep reading to figure out how I made my own instead.

Materials

  • 16″ gold chains
  • 3mm crimps
  • Gold beads
  • Gold earring bases
  • Turquoise gems
  • Needle nosed pliers

All of the items were purchased from Hobby Lobby except for the turquoise gems, which I linked to back to the Etsy shop in the list above. I ended up not using the gold beads because the holes were too small, and they wouldn’t fit on the gold chains I had bought.

Construction

The construction of the earrings was really easy. I used needle nosed pliers to open the base, and then inserted the turquoise gems. Once the gems were on the base of the earring I just used the pliers once again to close them back up. Voila! Earrings done.

I ended up not bothering to go back to the store once I knew the beads I had bought weren’t going to work. The 3mm crimps that I bought ended up being a big enough contrast against the dainty metal chain that I just used them by themselves to make the details. First, I put the turquoise gem in the center. After that I just crimped three crimps on each side of the gem as equidistant as possible up the length of the chain. I’m pretty happy with the results.

NeptuneNecklace-2

I have found that making this jewelry was simple, but has me wanting to try new things in the art of jewelry making. Any tips for someone new to jewelry making? Do you want your own necklace and earrings for Sailor Senshi princess dresses? I’d be willing to make these for people.
