DIY Goth Tibbers

Today is the first day of PAX East in Boston. I will be dressed as Goth Annie from League of Legends today. This was a last minute change of plans due to the lack of time to commit to quality on a full blow cosplay, but I still had a lot of fun with it because I got to make a lot of really fun prop pieces to go along with the look. Today, I’m going to share how I created Annie’s teddy bear, Tibbers. The whole project took between one and two hours.

Materials

  • Teddy bear (I used the Gund My First Teddy from Amazon)
  • Two large buttons
  • Thread and needle
  • Sharp scissors
  • Yarn and yarn needle
  • String of LED lights (I used these purple LEDs from Amazon)

Process

  1. Start by removing the tags and any ribbons/decoration that may have come on your bear.
  2. You’ll want to open the mouth of the teddy bear. Make sure to open it in the shape/place of your final mouth.
  3. Use the needle and thread to sew the buttons over the eyes of your teddy bear. You’ll have to thread up through the opening we made in the mouth.

  4. Cut hip open from his neck to his bottom.
  5. Make sure your LEDs are working, and then proceed to stuff them into the mouth of your teddy bear. Once you have about half of them in the mouth, bring the battery pack through to the stomach. Finish stuffing the lights into the stuffing along the seam. I hid my battery pack with the switch down by his right foot, so I could reach into the seam to turn the lights on and off.

  6. Use the yarn needle to “stitch up” your teddy bear at his ripped seams. Make them tight enough that the stuffing isn’t falling out, but it still will look like he’s bursting at the seams.
  7. Congrats! You should have something that looks like this.

Hi! I was the Peach you met on Sunday…just wanted to say I’ve totally read you blog before, so it’s crazy we ended up meeting!

I LOVE your Tibbers plush – I can’t believe you lit him with LEDs, the end result is perfect for goth annie.

I know! I got back and was doing a bit of adequate online stalking, and I was like, “Oh my gosh! Josh, I totally follow this girl’s blog, and I didn’t even realize it!” We live in such a small world. I’m so happy we met IRL even though we didn’t realize it at the time. Hopefully we meet at future cons. It was so nice meeting you!
